Kate’s second night at home…

Apparently, Kate is a night owl.  She sleeps in the daylight and becomes wide awake exactly when Mom and Dad are ready to go to bed.  Last night, I let Jennifer choose Kate’ bedtime outfit so that I could rest.  That worked out well until Kate’s large blue eyes kept staring up at me in her cute bedtime outfit.

I was exhausted, but I had absolutely no desire to put her into her bassinet until she was asleep.  Kate was not crying or fussy, but her eyes were wide open and she was very curious.  I sang to her, rocked her, danced with her…nothing worked.  Eventually, Dad gave up and put her in the bassinet and laid down.  Fifteen minutes later, I erupted out of bed like a pop-tart when I heard her “squeak”.  (erupting out of bed like a pop-tart is now my standard reaction…not deep sleep for me any more).  I held Kate until she fell asleep on my chest, then went to sleep.  Last night was much less stressful, but I now understand why new parents are so tired…not sure I will ever get a full night’s rest again!
