Happy New Year – Kate’s Getting Cuter!

She is getting cuter!

She is getting cuter!

The holidays have treated Kate very well. She had a visit from Grandma and Grandpa burnich how re-defined what it meant to be loved. She took a few walks on the beach and learned how to smile more often! She is getting cuter by the day!

Her two month checkup is coming up and she will be getting shots. Mom and dad have to prepare for this visit – we hope she doesn’t cry too much. The doctor recommended we give her tylenol before the visit to ease her pain and we are very much hoping it works!

Happy New Year to all!

Kate’s First Walk on The Beach!

After eating Christmas dinner (A whole chicken, stuffing, vegetables, and crescent rolls), we decided to take a walk on compo beach. We were happy to see that a lot of other people decided to do the same – there was quite a crowd at the beach!

Kate was asleep for the majority of the walk although when Dad decided to take the stroller on the sand, Kate made her objection very obvious. Dad felt the need to take pictures, so Kate and Mom put up with a few more minutes of pictures before they made it clear it was time to go home for pumpkin pie!

It was a great day for a walk – the sun was shining and the temperature was brisk. Enjoy the pics!

Merry Christmas!!!!

Merry Christmas! (John, Jennnifer, and Kate After Church)

Merry Christmas! (John, Jennifer, and Kate after church)

Christmas Eve was pretty uneventful in Westport. John shopped and prepared for Christmas dinner (making pumpkin pie and appetizers) while Jennifer watched Kate grow before our eyes.

We debated going to church on Christmas Eve, but then decided it was going to be too crowded and not a good environment for Kate. We woke up this morning and went to the 7:30 AM mass at St. Luke’s.

The mass was a success – Kate was sound asleep the entire time. She even gave the thumbs up a few times! The church was surprisingly sparse – very few people were there which we thought was perfect!

We opened gifts when we got home from church. Kate got a book and a cd full of songs and a deposit in her college savings account. We will eat dinner around 2pm and enjoy a relaxing day.

Jennifer, Kate and I can’t help but think of all of our family and friends during this wonderful day. You are all in our thoughts and prayers – we love you all!

Merry Christmas to all!

Kate’s Favorite Place…

Kate loves motion. When she was in her bassinet, a simple roll around the room (the bassinet was on wheels) made her very content. Now that Kate is very aware of her surroundings, she enjoys a little visual stimulation. Enter the Swing!

Placing Kate in the swing guarantees sleep. Before sleep finally sets in, Kate is very actively looking at the world around her. It is fun to watch. So fun, in fact, that I took a video this morning. She is waving to you!

(Warning: You may get a little seasick if you stare at the video too long!)

Kate goes for a ride to see the snow….

Snug as a Bug in a Rug!

Snug as a Bug in a Rug!

Jennifer and I got pretty stir crazy, so we decided to take Kate for a ride through Westport to see the snow and the beaches. The roads were finally clear, so we figured it was worth the risk.

Kate is growing into bigger clothes, so it is always fun to see Kate in a new outfit. She has been sleeping longer and longer each day, which is good (as long as mom and dad can figure out how to get her to sleep at the right times!).

Lets go for a ride!

She was picture perfect as we got ready to go for our ride – cute!

It’s a winter wonderland!

Kate's White Christmas!

Kate's White Christmas!

Kate is gonna have a white Christmas! How cool is that?

It snowed about eight inches here in Westport on Friday, leaving a beautiful blanket of white snow. Schools were closed, store shelves were stripped bare, and we have not left the house since!
I just realized this morning that Jennifer and I have not left the house since Thursday. I don’t mind not leaving the house – it is nice and warm and Kate is here! Jennifer wanted to look at christmas lights yesterday, but we decided against it – not worth the risk of having Kate in a car in snow/ice conditions.

Anyway, all is fine here in the O’Connor household. Kate is sleeping longer. She is up to about 5 hours and we are trying to get her to realize that 9pm is the time to sleep for the night. Trying is the key word here – Kate still rules the roost.

Kate after her bath....

Kate after her bath....

Kate is changing a little every day. She is a little more interactive now. If you stick your tongue out, she will mimic and stick her tongue out. She seems to notice and recognize mom and dad, which is a sweet reward. Taking care of Kate is a joy and more rewarding every day!

Kate is learning to play games…

Kate has got some very adorable facial expressions....

Kate has got some very adorable facial expressions....

Jennifer has a magazine about how to play games with your newborn. One of the games involves simply looking at Kate with a blank expression, then smiling and saying “Look Kate, I’m Happy!”. Kate is supposed to mimic your facial expression by smiling back at you. Another version of the same game involves sticking your tongue out at Kate and hoping she will mimic the same gesture back.

Jennifer and I have both played this game with success! The biggest problem is getting Kate to focus on your face long enough to play the game. Kate seems enamored with her surroundings all the time…especially the TV. Kate stares at the TV endlessly sometimes, which is not a habit we want her to get into.

Either way – it is fun to watch Kate respond with a smile or even a tongue!

9 Pounds, 10 Ounces, 23 Inches…Kate is Growing!

During Kate’s last visit to the pediatrician, she weighed in at 9 pounds 10 ounces and 23 inches! This was no surprise to mom and dad since she has been eating non-stop over the last few days.

Auntie Lenore is a natural!

Auntie Lenore is a natural!

Kate had a visit from Auntie Lenore and Godmother Margaret. Kate seemed to immediately fall asleep the minute Auntie Lenore picked her up – looks like Lenore has found her calling.

The last few days have been pretty uneventful. We have been getting Kate used to her Crib (Kate would probably say Mom and Dad are silly for even bothering – she prefers to be held!) and Kate is slowly interacting with the world around her…she is more attentive every day!

Kate’s Crib Arrived….Finally!

Kates New Crib

Kate

Kate’s crib finally arrived after a few missteps (UPS delivered the original crib to the wrong house!). It is a beautiful thing…Dad took all afternoon to put it together.

Jennifer and I have decided it is time to move Kate to sleeping in the crib. This is harder on the parents than on Kate because we enjoy having her in our room. There is something special about having Kate lay on your chest and watching her sleep…but there is nothing special about not getting any sleep.

Kate loves to pose...here, she is watching TV and posing for a portrait!

Kate doesn’t seem to notice what is going on…she is of course more comfortable sleeping with mom and dad, but once she is asleep, it really does not matter to her where her sleeping arrangement exist.

Mom did a great job decorating the crib!

Kate’s First Birthday Party – With Friends!

Kate and Jack...

Kate and Jack...

Kate turned one month old on Saturday!  We decided to throw a birthday party and invite one of Kate’s closest friends over for some brownies.

John William Candler (Jack) was born a few weeks before Kate and has been dying to meet his new playmate!  He is adorable and has the same likes and dislikes as Kate (eat, sleep, poop) – they are going to get along very well.

There was a video of course…see below!
